Global Head of Human Resources
Lead people strategy for a regulated digital asset exchange growing across Nigeria, Ghana and new African markets.
About the role
KoinKoin is a pan-African digital asset exchange, operating through KoinKoin Global Network Ltd in Nigeria and KoinKoin Ghana Ltd in Ghana. We work under regulator supervision in both countries: in Nigeria we hold Approval-in-Principle under the SEC Nigeria ARIP framework and take part in the CBN AML/CFT/CPF supervision pilot, and in Ghana we are part of the SEC Ghana virtual asset regulatory sandbox.
As our team grows across Lagos and Accra, we are hiring our first Global Head of Human Resources to build the people function for the whole group. You will set the people strategy, put the policies and systems in place that a regulated financial firm needs, and help us hire, develop and keep the people who will build KoinKoin into new markets.
What you'll do
- Build and own a group-wide people strategy covering Nigeria and Ghana, designed to extend to future markets as KoinKoin expands.
- Lead hiring and talent acquisition at scale: workforce planning, role design, sourcing, structured interviews and onboarding across engineering, compliance, operations and commercial teams.
- Write and maintain the group HR policies and employee handbook, with country-specific versions where local law requires them.
- Keep employment practice compliant with the Nigerian Labour Act, the Ghana Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) and related regulations, including contracts, working time, leave and exits.
- Oversee payroll and statutory deductions in both countries, including pension contributions under PenCom rules in Nigeria and SSNIT in Ghana, working closely with Finance.
- Design and run performance management and compensation frameworks, including job levels, pay benchmarking and review cycles.
- Run the fit-and-proper assessments, background, reference and credential checks expected of staff at a regulated financial firm, and keep the records regulators may ask to see.
- Run learning and development, including mandatory AML/CFT and compliance training, and keep complete training records with the Compliance team.
- Shape a culture of integrity, ownership and care for customers, and choose and run an HRIS that gives the group accurate, auditable people data.
What you'll bring
- 10+ years in human resources, including senior HR leadership roles.
- Experience in financial services, banking or fintech, ideally in a regulated environment.
- A track record of building or scaling an HR function and hiring at pace.
- Strong working knowledge of Nigerian employment law; knowledge of Ghanaian employment law, or the ability to get up to speed quickly.
- Hands-on experience with payroll, pensions and statutory compliance in Nigeria and, ideally, Ghana.
- Experience designing performance and compensation frameworks.
- Professional HR qualification such as CIPM or CIPD.
- Sound judgement, discretion with confidential information, and the credibility to advise the leadership team.
Nice to have
- Experience in crypto, digital assets or capital markets.
- Experience running HR across more than one African country.
- Familiarity with fit-and-proper and staff vetting requirements from financial regulators.
- Experience selecting and implementing an HRIS.
